| MP Sunai Julpongsatorn has raised a novel scheme for the new government to open an English-teaching program a la mode of ‘One Tambon (Sub district) , One Farang Teacher.’ The veteran lawmaker said he will push for the teaching of English by native speakers in all tambon-level schools throughout Thailand, which is currently consisting of about 7,000 tambon. The Puea Thai MP believed the government under premiership of Yingluck Shinawatra could find an equal number of native speakers of English to teach schoolchildren in every tambon nationwide. Mr Sunai said several international agencies and foreign individuals would be interested to join such an English-teaching program for Thai students. ‘English is no longer a foreign language. It’s the language of mankind, but our children including those at vocational level are still so poor in English,’ he said. The former adviser to the Education Ministry said graduates of vocational schools would earn more salary and income than they do today if their English could be put to work. English programs for the vocational students should be upgraded to the extent they read, write and speak English as well as university students do, according to the MP. ‘Vocational students are taught a lot about world technologies and they could make a much better use of them only if their English was practically fair or good enough,’ he said.
