Veera, Ratree to Be Freed ''Soon'', Says Jatuporn
| A couple of Thai convicts serving their time in a Phnom Penh jail will be granted royal pardon and returned home ''soon'', said Jatuporn Prompand on Monday.
The Red Shirt leader/Puea Thai MP did not elaborate how soon Yellow Shirt activists Veera Somkwamkid and Ratree Pipatnapaiboon might possibly be freed under a royal pardon from King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia as earlier speculated.
Jatuporn only said he and his colleagues had held informal talk with Cambodian authorities during their visit to Phnom Penh over the weekend about ways and means to acquire freedom for Veera and Ratree currently held behind bars at Prey Sar prison where they are serving an eight-years and six-years term under an espionage lawsuit respectively.
Alongside several other Thais, they were arrested trekking into Cambodian territory by troops in Oddar Meanchey province late last year and brought to a Phnom Penh court for justice.
The Red Shirt leaders and Puea Thai MPs traveled to Phnom Penh to play a soccer game with Cambodian government officials. Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen played for the Thai side which won 10-7 in the friendly match at Phnom Penh's Olympic Stadium.
