Chalerm Yubamrung said on Monday he would shortly transfer four police generals only if found involved in the running of gambling dens in Bangkok.
The deputy premier did not name names but assured he might in the next three days have those police generals put away so they could no longer stand in the way of the government getting rid of the gambling businesses, said to open in defiance of the laws.
The Yingluck government has moved to close all betting dens in the capital and elsewhere following a sensational exposure of one in Sutisarn area by opposition MP Chuvit Kamonvisit during last week's government policy address in parliament.
''I earlier said it might take a couple of weeks to have those police generals transferred. I'll do it in a three-days time and ask Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to have them moved out of position.
''There're about 100 betting tables at a place for which 1.6 million baht in daily rent has been collected. That betting den has opened for over a year now. Owners of such gambling dens include Korean, Macau and Hong Kong nationals.
''The gambling dens are located in Rama IX, Taopoon, Kingpet, Phra Kanong, Bangna and Samrey areas, among others. I'm in charge of getting rid of all these vicious places,'' said an outspoken Chalerm.
He did not either confirm or deny possibility police chief Pol Gen Wichian Podbhosri might be transferred for alleged failures to crack down on the gambling dens, besides the unidentified police generals.
