Yingluck Shinawatra said on Tuesday whether police chief Pol Gen Wichian Podbhosri might possibly be transferred in the wake of an extensive crackdown on gambling dens would be decided upon by Chalerm Yubamrung. The woman prime minister said she had merely set policy toward the government's combats against the law-defying businesses of gambling and other vices in which high-ranking police officers had been allegedly involved. Whether any police officers in general or Pol Gen Wichian in particular might possibly be moved out of the way of such a vice-busting campaign would depend on the decision of the deputy premier in charge of police affairs, according to the prime minister. Ms Yingluck did not either confirm or deny possibilities Pol Gen Wichian might be transferred alongside four other police generals. Mr Chalerm did not name names but said the unidentified police generals might be transferred very shortly if found involved in the gambling businesses. Both Ms Yingluck and Mr Chalerm attended a monthly meeting of the Police Committee at the headquarters of the National Police on Tuesday. The police chief dismissed speculation he might sooner or later resign under pressure from the Puea Thai-led government and insisted he had met his job descriptions. According to the deputy premier, who is a former police inspector, casinos which have opened in defiance of the law in the capital were said to be owned by foreigners and run by people closely connected with high-ranking police officers. The crackdown on the gambling dens has been launched after opposition MP Chuvit Kamonvisit produced a video clip showing youngsters and other people inside a gambling den in Sutisarn area during last week's government policy address in parliament.
