Japan Offers Free Fund For Flood Relief
The Japanese government will provide a grant in cash for a flooded Thailand and experts to help fight one of the country's worst deluges.
The undisclosed Japanese grant will cover expenditures related to the post-flooding reconstruction and repairs of property and precincts severely damaged by flooding on medium- and long-term basis, reported NHK TV on Wednesday.
A Japanese team of flood control specialists will come and help with the Thai government's ongoing efforts to quickly drive floodwaters down to the sea, according to the Japanese TV.
Tokyo's aid in cash and kind was viewed as a return of favors following Bangkok's assistance provided to Japanese people affected by earthquakes and tsunamis in the Far Eastern state earlier this year.
In addition, a number of foreign governments also provided free funds and goods in concerted flood relief efforts whereas an estimated 250 billion baht in loan will be offered to varied domestic industries critically damaged by flooding.
Recipients of the flood relief loan will include firms at large-scale industrial estates as well as small- and medium-sized enterpreneurs in submerged Ayudhya, Patumtani and elsewhere.
Contributors to the 250 billion baht loan to finance the reconstruction and restoration of those industries will include Thai private banks, the Government Savings Bank and Japan's Bank for International Cooperation.
