Yingluck to Attend Mekong Summit in Naypyidaw
Yingluck Shinawatra will leave for a Greater Mekong Subregion summit in Naypyidaw next Monday.
The Thai premier will join in the two-day Greater Mekong Subregion summit among leaders of six regional countries, including China, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand, to discuss concerted efforts to develop optimum uses of the international river, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Tanee Tongpakdee.
Besides, Energy Minister Pichai Nariptapand and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, who will accompany the premier to the Myanmar capital, will hold informal, bilateral talk with their Myanmar counterparts, he said.
Yingluck is also scheduled early next year to visit Tavoy in southern Myanmar where infrastructure projects such as the construction of a deep-sea port and land bridge linking the two neighboring states have been planned.
The woman premier earlier paid an official visit to Myanmar as part of her courtesy calls to all the ASEAN member states.
