House Speaker To Be Named Next Tuesday

A House speaker would likely be named next Tuesday, said Prime Minister-designate Yingluck Shinawatra on Friday.

Following the reopening of parliament next Monday, the House of Representatives will pick the House speaker plus deputy House speakers the next day, she said.

HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn will preside over the state ceremony for the reopening of parliament, following Jul 3's electoral contests which saw the Puea Thai Party grab most MP seats.

Tipped to take the bench in the lower House is Somsak Kiatsuranond, Wittaya Buranasiri and Abhivan Viriyachai, all of the Puea Thai Party.

Ms Yingluck, expected to be named Thailand's first woman leader the following week, said her cabinet line-up will be finished by the middle of next month.
