Puea Thai MP Somsak Kiatsuranond was voted House Speaker by a majority of his colleagues on Monday.
Puea Thai Party leader Yongyudh Wichaidit announced most MPs of the ruling party resolved to name the veteran lawmaker of Kon Kaen as House Speaker in Tuesday’s Lower House session.
The Puea Thai legislators picked MP Charoen Chandkomon of Chaiyapoom as first Deputy House Speaker and MP Visoot Chaiyanaroon of Payao as second Deputy House Speaker, said the party leader.
Meanwhile, HRH Crown PrinceMaha Vajiralongkorn will on Monday preside over a state ceremony to reopen parliament at Anandasamakom Throne Hall, following Jul 3’s electoral contests which saw the Puea Thai Party grab most MP seats.
Prime Minister-designate Yingluck Shinawatra is scheduled to be named prime minister next week by the MPs of the ruling party plus five other coalition partners.
