Thaksin In Japan - Day Four

Thaksin Shinawatra visited on Thursday a devastated town of northeastern Japan where an estimated 900 people were killed by a tsunami earlier this year.

On his fourth day of a private visit to Japan, Mr Thaksin was led to Natori on the suburbs of Sendai where he was debriefed of the tsunami disaster which ruined houses and buildings and rendered an estimated 2,000 people homeless.

Natori officials said it will take a two-years time to rebuild the coastal town. The Sendai airport, which was considerably damaged by the tidal waves, has resumed services.

The former Thai leader was informed by the Natori mayor of the disaster and donated 500,000 yen in cash to contribute to the relief aid.

He commented the tsunami devastation of Natori was much more severe than that which hit southern Thailand several years ago.

Mr Thaksin, scheduled to stay in Japan until next Monday, will meet with top  executives of Japanese private corporations in bid to invite them to relocate their manufacturing industry to Thailand and invest in the Thai capital and bond markets.

The former Thai premier will also persuade the Japanese people, especially those affected by the natural disasters, to come and stay in Thailand and take a rehabilitation course, preferably given a residential visa.
