Thaksin Plans Visit To Japan

The Japanese government is speculated to consider whether former Thai leader Thaksin Shinawatra may be allowed to visit the Far Eastern country later this month.

Mr Thaksin, who remains globetrotting since he was deposed in 2006's coup, has planned to spend a Japan trip between Aug 22 and Aug 28 during which he will deliver a speech and visit Miyaki town, devastated by an earthquake and tsunami earlier this year.

A high-ranking official of Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan 's cabinet said Mr Thaksin's planned tour to Japan will be considered very scrupulously.

Japan prohibits foreign nationals who may have been court-verdicted for one year in jail or more from entering the country unless otherwise allowed by the government.
