WikiLeaks: Myanmar Rice Traded For North Korean Nukes

Myanmar's military regime has quietly traded rice and other farm products for North Korea's nuclear arms and other weapon systems, according to WikiLeaks website.

The Myanmar government has secretly run the rice-for-arms dealings with the Far Eastern communist state for the last five years, the website quoted cable messages sent to Washington from United States diplomats attached to Southeast Asian nations as saying.

In 2009, an estimated 20,000 tons of Myanmar rice were shipped to North Korea by Myanmar Economic Holdings Co, a little-known trading firm which has operated under strict control of Myanmar generals.

The diplomats suspected the Myanmar military leaders had launched a classified nuclear arms project with the help from the North Koreans. The Myanmar military regime has been accused of building hidden facilities for ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons in some mountainous areas of the dictated state.

Myanmar authorities dismissed allegations involving a nuclear power ambition of those powerful generals in Naypyidaw and sidestepped widespread concerns over Pyongyang's nuclear proliferation schemes.

Besides Myanmar, the North Koreans have allegedly provided technology and equipment for the making of nuclear weapons to Syria and Iran.
