BAAC to Help Farmers

The Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) has set up a rice-mortgage scheme and other assistance including a post-flood rehabilitation measure to help agriculturists who are affected by the flood.

BAAC deputy managerBoonchuayCheadamrongchai (บุญช่วย เจียดำรงค์ชัย) said the bank has set up the rice mortgage scheme since October 7 to help farmers  whose crops have been damaged by the deluge.

The bank will also grant a three-year debt moratorium to its debtors who have been affected by flooding.

He said the floods had damaged 8.8 million rai of farmland and 2.66 million farmers had registered with the BAAC that they had been affected by flooding.

He said these farmers would be allowed to suspend their debt repayment for three yearswithout interest. Those who have been heavily affected, the bank will restructure its debt plan to suit each case.

In the case of death, the bank will lift all debts so that their families won’t have to carry the burden. So far, there’sbeen 32 such cases.

The BAAC have also established a machine repairing center and it would also further give a loan of 100-thousand baht to each of them so that they could rehabilitate their farm after the water recedes.
